Five years after transitioning as the host of a weekly TV program to become a self-made celebrated agricultural journalist, Gifty Hodey Manye’s feat in the industry transcends beyond Ghana.
The 37-year-old’s footprint will be registered once again in West Africa’s Dakar, Senegal as the moderator for the African Food Systems Forum starting September 1, 2025.
“I’m thrilled to moderate a youth-led session at the Africa Food Systems Forum (AFS) in Dakar, Senegal, inside the Youth Dome on the 3rd September 2025. The session’s theme, “Youth, Culture, and Agriculture,” aligns perfectly with my advocacy for youth in agriculture,” she wrote.
With consistency and determination, she utilised her experience as a trained journalist and public relations expert to project agribusiness as a venture beyond cutlass and hoe, as usually seen in Ghana.
Being the founder and host of the Ghanaian Farmer TV show on YouTube and Joy Prime, Gifty Hodey Manye known popularly on social media as Enyonam Manye, has given farmers, both small-scale and commercial a platform to educate the youth on the need to become financially stable in any of the value chains.
“…Despite initial doubts and questions about the fate of my existing business-focused content, “BizTrends,” I was determined to pursue my passion for agriculture, inspired by my dad’s experiences,” Enyonam wrote on Facebook while announcing her invitation to Senegal.
Even though Enyonam did not have formal agricultural education or experience, her experience in communications made it easier “to break down complex scientific concepts into engaging, easy-to-understand content for everyone. The journey wasn’t easy, especially in the initial year, when farmers were hesitant to participate. However, persistence and explaining the benefits of showcasing their work paid off.”
She built a community of like-minded people, winning collaborations with international organizations such as the World Food Programme, World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH), Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA), Agri Terra, Solidaridad, and SONO among others taking her to more than 10 countries.
The AFS is a premier gathering of stakeholders transforming food systems across Africa.
The September forum in Dakar is focusing on food security to enhance food production, processing, and distribution as well as developing climate-smart strategies for climate resilience agribusiness.
Discussions are centered around fostering economic growth and investment in agriculture and also champion inclusive transformation by empowering the youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
Enyonam Manye, a member of the Agri Influencers Network expressed gratitude to the Caribou and Mastercard Foundation for creating opportunities for social media content creators giving them the opportunity to feature in high-powered events like AFS.
