The government has been announcing some bold decisions for the agricultural sector under the Feed Ghana Program and the latest among them is the procurement of 4400 different machines for 50 agricultural districts across the country.
According to Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, the government’s initiative seeks to address the pressing issue of insufficient farm machinery, which has been hindering farming activities.
“Under the Farmer Service Centres initiative, we will provide agriculture machinery for 50 agriculture districts with about 4400 different machineries.”
He acknowledged how farmers have been working tirelessly to feed the country and therefore need support to boost their businesses.
“Our farmers have always carried Ghana on their shoulders.”
“With these investments, we are returning the favour, giving them the tools, technology, and support to carry the nation into a future of food security and prosperity.”
“The transformation has begun. Agriculture is not just an occupation; it is the engine of Ghana’s renewal,” he wrote on Facebook.
Recently, the Finance Minister stated that transforming agriculture on a large scale requires long-term financing as the government is working with the World Bank, IFC, and other development partners to raise funds and encourage private sector involvement.
“I also emphasised that such large-scale agricultural transformation requires patient capital, and we are therefore working closely with the World Bank, IFC, and other development partners to mobilise financing and catalyse private sector participation,” Dr Ato Forson noted.
He made these known while announcing plans for Oil Palm Plantation Policy which is expected to create some 500,000 jobs.
Cassiel Ato Forson explained that the project reflects the government’s plan to develop economic crops and use agriculture as a tool for inclusive growth and job creation.
“Ghana is ready to move. Together with our partners, we will harness the power of agriculture to deliver inclusive growth, create jobs, and place economic crops at the heart of our nation’s transformation agenda,” the Finance Minister said.
